From para-para-manga flip books, tracks running in parallel, paradoxes, childlike paradises and pla-model miniature worlds, Paramodel springs.

Made up of two geeky-looking guys from Eastern Osaka, Yasuhiko Hayashi and Yusuke Nakano, their art installations are like dioramas gone wild; with electric blue plastic railway worlds, biddy mountain goats and mini-lorries snuggling alongside sarariimen at a sushi bar, obachan scrubbing down in onsens and kawaii kids galore in a school gym.

There’s a healthy dose of ‘play’ in all they do, but the effect is seriously hypnotic, and the execution complex. Their latest step has been finding the spiritual in sewage pipes, as they twist the traditional art of ema in weird and whimsical paintscapes.
