One of the most promising young photographers to rise from the land of the rising sun in recent years, Shiga Lieko presents inexplicable images from a nocturnal, semi-supernatural other world. Her acclaimed series Canary is currently on show in Tokyo for Mori Gallery’s Roppongi Crossing exhibition, displayed on tripods arranged in a perfect circle. As with all her work, the fragmented, highly orchestrated images here show photography to be a as means of distorting reality, rather than documenting it.
