Last year was big, this year is bigger. Big In Japan! returns on November 16 in Sydney and November 19 in Melbourne with a scintillating line up of experimental artists and musicians from that very archipelago we keep harping on about hereATSUHIRO ITO brings his fluorescent lighting noise instrument ‘optron’ for an explosive synesthetic experience, and HIROSHI HAWEGAWA (of noise units ASTRO and C.C.C.C.) performs his psychedelic live electronics in collaboration with Sydney artist James Brown. The hottest Japanese instrumental krautrock girl group, NISENNENMONDAI, work their hypnotic magic while MAMORU OKUNO’S audio/culinary experiments tap into the music of noodles. SHABUSHABU and LAKILAKIwasMAHO+THAIDISCO from Kyoto serve up their colourful chaos, and the renowned reclusive beatboxer DOKAKA gives a rare live performance. There’s also digital installations from SHIMURABROS., lighter-than-air floating sculptures from YASUSHIRO SUZUKI and conceptual fashion from the label WRITTENAFTERWARDS, as well as video art from LIEKO SHIGA, YUKIHIRO TAGUCHI, LYOTA YAGISACHIKO KODOMA, YUSUKE SHIGETA, YUICHIRO TAMURA and more. Stay tuned.
